Jema al Fna barbecue - hordes of bbq stands in the great piazza in Marrakech
An exotic world of coiled cobras and snake charmers, musicians playing strange instruments, hustlers and great food being prepared in numerous stalls on glowing embers. From sheep's heads to snails to shish kebabs - all on the Jema al Fna.
This clip gives a small impression of a large busy square. Notice the smoke from barbecues rising over the entire square and the thousands of locals having a good time. The hundreds of food stands spring up in the evening - in the morning they are all gone.
Notwithstanding a large selection of orange varieties and sweets, the main attraction is the flaming barbecues with sausage and kebabs. Baked sheep's heads are a local favourite not sampled by many tourists, ditto for the huge pans of steaming snails .
